Before and After Home Dec - Joanna Joy Photography
Greenville SC
Short history – I’ve been helping Lily decorate her homes since we first slipped a T shirt over a horrid lampshade and stapled sheets to the ugliest donated sofa ever. Many apartments and condos later I get to help her decorate with her first home!!
My sister in law and I flew out to Greenville SC together. The generally acknowledged fiction that I am cross eyed and can’t hang a picture straight requires Becca’s mandatory assistance. She is a perfectionist. I – not so much. Lily, Miss No Commitment EVER, finally committed to a house and an adorable dog so we cut her some slack on choosing a shower curtain and some throw pillows.
I’ve tried to include a few Before photos to illustrate our task – the place was pretty empty – like she’d just moved in. Her instructions to us – “I like muted colors and I want it casual, comfortable, and dog friendly.” She loaded us up with Southern calories at Smoke on the Water. Fried everything. A short walk around gorgeous downtown Greenville – lit up so pretty! Followed by more fried everything for breakfast at Tupelo Honey Cafe. The remaining 3 days were a whirlwind of shopping, hauling, (a bit of Uhaul driving – thank you Becca!), and wall pounding – thank you Mr Dave for delivering Chick Fil A when it was most needed!
Thank you to Southern Hospitality – those folks were so helpful and sweet – the floor staff understood our time constraints and helped us load so many items even though the official loaders had the day off! Marshall’s, Kirkland, and Target – you did us proud! Other chains – who will politely remain unnamed – the smaller scale of your stores proved most unhelpful indeed. And to mention my favorite stop – for that bit from home – we found Maine blueberries trays at Rockhouse Antiques! I could spend hours there!
A bookshelf is on order for the living room as are some furnishings to complete the bedrooms. Longer curtains – note to all shoppers, don’t expect to find anything longer than 84s in stock anywhere! But that’s what the internet is for . . . Overall Lily I think was happy. She said “we made her house a home.” and that make me happy. also whoopie pies. She had the refrigerator stocked just for us. And so I was happy too.
Stay tuned – I’ll be posting the portrait session of Lily and Buster soon! (my cat person stance is wavering. this dog was too cute!)

[…] Each friendship is different and adds to each part of your life’s journey. Lily has been with me through lots of ups and downs – she stood by my side when I gave my first baby a bath – I was scared the little chubbers would slip out of my hands! She’s also gone scouting with me for photo locations. This includes disturbing homeless people sleeping in the bushes – beware Rio Vista Riparian Preserve! Those pretty sunflowers by the water might be camouflaging something more! Though we are separated now by the ENTIRE country – we feel just as close as we ever did! Take a peek at her blog post featuring her oh so wonderful Buster and gorgeous new home! […]
[…] I’ve been updating Lily’s headshots every 3ish years for a while now. This year it was a destination shoot – in Greenville SC! She has relocated to greener pastures and added Buster to her home! So yes, he got his own feature. Casual with a smile, sporty in a Clemson jersey, and very GQ in a bow tie. If you want to see a bathtub pic of Buster check out the home deco blog post here! […]
