3 Top Reasons Moms Don’t Book Family Photos
The dreaded reasons family photo sessions are not booked? (and I hear these often!)
Reason 1 – I hate taking family photos! We’ll do them next year when I lose a few pounds.
Reason to disregard Reason 1 – Your family loves you just as you are. Seriously they do. Set aside your complexes temporarily for the greater good. Your children need this. They will treasure this photo later – I promise that. Read parenting books, read about family identify – this is important.
Reason 2 – My children hate it! They are squirmy!
Reason to disregard Reason 2 – Hire a lifestyle photographer. They will create a fun experience that’s about more than just standing under a tree. Also, be realistic in your expectations – kids will be kids and the photos will document just that stage in life. They’ll outgrow this stage far too fast! And believe it or not, you’re gonna miss this.
Reason 3 -What will we wear??
Reason to disregard Reason 3 – Guidance is available. Trust me, your photographer wants to help you. Her portfolio depends on great images – and styling is a big factor! Ask for help or suggestions! Take a peek at my What to Wear Guide for families for inspiration!
I’ll admit you need a bit of resolve to make this happen! Here’s the story behind our most recent family photo. This photo features all the above:
- Someone not wanting to take family photos (my husband)
- Squirmy children (my daughter who insisted on flashing gang signs through many of the photos and my youngest son who thought she was hilarious)
- Less then perfect clothing choices (esp. the two oldest boys who are almost twins with nearly identical shirts)
So not the perfect session by any means but we made it happen anyway! It was a Saturday afternoon, I’d been wanting a family photo for a while. I grabbed clothes from the closet (no time for shopping unfortunately) and started ironing (Arizona was playing and whether or not we would ever leave the house seemed to hinge on the football score but by the time Arizona was up by 28 no one could insist with a straight face that this game had to be watched through to the end!) I grabbed my tripod and hauled the gang to the nearest park.
I’m happy I did! This is the most favorite thing on my desk! I glance and think – I’m blessed!
