Mt Lemmon - Joanna Joy Photography
Family Documentary Photography
Family dates. Those do nothing days – those lets climb the mountain and eat ice cream. This day trip was even more special – Danny Joe had recently spent almost two weeks in the hospital due to a ruptured appendix and resulting abscess. Attached to a gazillon IVs and stomach tubes etc – with a diet of ice chips only for 10 days he came home looking skeletal! It was wonderful to see him dig into real food (and by real food I mean an enormous loaded cookie from the Cookie Cabin)
Our first stop was all the way up Mt Lemmon – a picnic at Marshall Gulch – perfect for families – there are restroom! yay! and lots of rock and trees to climb. Or you could sit around the picnic table munching watermelon and eating Italian grinders from Eegee’s and not exercise at all. Always an option. We did see a vole who keep popping out from under our table keeping children of all ages entertained!
Next stop – Rose Canyon Lake – it’s water, near a desert, so we wont quibble too much about size (small) and we’ll focus on the good points. There are fish – if you like to fish. There’s a snack shack and restroom (always an attraction). and it’s pretty – which trumps everything. See a recent family photo session here!
Finally, pit stop at Windy Point to watch the sunset and moonsoon clouds roll in. By this time messy hair has reached “don’t care” status. That point is windy! but not windy enough to blow any photographers away – the place is crawling with them! all taking pretty amazing photos. Thank you Tucson for being awesome and giving us access to these mountains so close by!
If you look closely this post features a rare sighting of a Sasquatch – all frizzy hair and camera shy! doing what I do best, snuggling my girl! and a shout out again to those Tucson monsoon skies – love love the clouds!
