Tanque Verde Falls Hike
DOCUMENTARY FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY
It’s Thanksgiving weekend – what better way to walk off those Thanksgiving calories than with a Level 4 scramble up to Tanque Verde Falls! Now what exactly is a Level 4 scramble you ask? Well I’m sure I didn’t know before this hike!
We ventured past the first falls on this hike. And as is my childish custom, I’d ask other hikers “is it much further?” “From this point, how much further until the other falls?” One hiker took a look at the our gang of little ones and said “it’s a level 4 scamble, I’m not sure the little guys can make it.”
Apparently climbing over large boulders with both hands and feet – ei. all 4s – is a level 4 scramble.
10 year old boys will cry “This is the best hike ever!!” 7 year old girls will cry in anger “Who thought I would like this!!!”
All agree though – fall foliage in Arizona is lovely – and water in the desert so refreshing!!
From trail head to the second falls – it took us about 2 hours. Wear good shoes, be prepared to get them wet a little. Bring a backpack, keep your hands free of water bottles and cameras – this makes climbing slightly awkward. Be prepared to haul yourself up and jump down a bit.
